True Stories

"Having seen all of this, you may choose to look the other way... but you can never say again that you did not know."

Lyndon
Lyndon

Lyndon was heartlessly abandoned in Dublin last June. He was found by a young couple, who made the two hour Journey to our centre.

His back was severly infected, it was red raw, On his tail was a large tumor that was a wet mass of sores and maggots.

Lyndon also had a bilateral hernia of the peritoneum which meant that his 'waste' was not leaving his body and poisoning his system.

Lyndon had to have three operations and many months of care.

However, he survived his ordeal and is now happily rehomed in Tipperary

Manuka
Prince

Manuka was found in our local town. She was only 12 or 14 weeks old and her little body was ravaged with mange. She had open, bloody sores which were badly infected. If we had not been at our vets when she was brought in, she would surely have been put to sleep.

We took her into our care and first treated the wounds with antibiotics and Manuka honey. She also had to be re -hydrated and fed small meals hourly. Once the infection cleared, we treated her mange. All in all her recovery took almost 6 months of hard work. But BOY was it worth it...

She grew into a magnificent beauty and now lives with a member of staff in their home.

Prince

Prince came to us in November 2006 when a kind business man from Tipperary rescued him from from negligent owners.

He was in a dreadful state - underweight, malnourished, he had open sores all over his body, and worst of all, a serious case of itchy mange.

Prince understandably was nervous at first, but with a soft bed, some good food and some loving care, he was soon sporting a healthy coat, and is now one of the most handsome dogs.

Melanie
Melanie

Melanie and her puppies were seen dumped out of a transit van in Killusty Co Kilkenny and were brought to us by concerned members of the public. Not only did all three dogs have severe mange, but Melanie also had a broken elbow and the pups came down with a stomack bug a few days after their rescue.

Thanks to our great vet in Clonmel the puppies survived and have gone to new homes in Sweden.

Melanie's leg healed well, her mange cleared up surprisingly fast and she has found a great home in the US thanks to Greyhound Friends in Massachusets.

Emma
Emma

This Tiny little lady arrived tonight. She has been sighted several times this week locally. How she survived I will never know. She ate a little food and retched as it hit her tummy. This is why we do, what we do... day after day every day.

Her little leg appears to be broken, will have her checked tomorrow. This one holds her head so high and proudly, she seems to say. "I won't let you see my pain' 'I am a lady'

Emma's leg was indeed broken and had to be fixed in cast. It's healed nicely and she is putting on weight. She is a little bit nervous and scared of strangers, no wonder after all she has gone through!

Badger badger

Badger was abandoned outside our gate late last year, as you can see by the first photo he was in a dreadful state. He was missing an eye, his jaw was degloved, obviously by a badger, he had mange and was extremly malnourished.

Today Badger is a real character. He is full of mischief.

He has a wonderful home in Co Limerick where he cuddles up to his new mum on the couch to watch TV.

Peppa

Peppa came to us in very poor condition from a dog pound in South Dublin. As you can see by the first picture, she was a bundle of hairless bones. She thrived with love and care and has now found a forever home through our friends in Dogs Trust.
