Hardest to rehome – Topper
Meet our lovely long term boy, Topper.
This brindle lurcher boy has recently had his two year anniversary with PAWS. Topper is a handsome dark brindle boy who deserves a comfortable, safe and happy home to call his own.
Topper needed a lot of time and help to build his confidence back up after he arrived to us. He arrived at the PAWS gates looking tentative, worried and unsure of his surroundings. He was hesitant when the PAWS staff came up to offer him a reassuring pet. Looking into this gorgeous boy’s eyes, you know he has a heck of a story to tell if he could talk. He carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. Topper did not have a very good start in life and sadly, this past was etched on his face for the longest time. Unlike other dogs who have come from similar circumstances, Topper handled himself differently, he was clever and a little shy but settled in rather quickly. It was obvious when he realised he was in a safe place, as he carried himself with more confidence and his walls started to come down.
When he realised he was in a caring place where he would be looked after, he became more relaxed, maybe for the first time in his life. Underneath his ‘underdog’ persona, a more confident and very loveable dog with a very sweet personality came out. Everyone could tell… this boy was a special one. He has his quirks; he likes to use his water bowl as a football sometimes, he has a sense of humour; sometimes, unintentionally, he prefers to lead you on a walk rather than the other way around and he really enjoyed his one on one time. He is a pal to all the staff and volunteer dog walkers. Topper enjoys his routine. He is a very clean dog and enjoys a lounge in bed, true to the lurcher character. He is loyal and clever and we feel he would make a great companion for someone who enjoys exploring the outdoors but also will enjoy life as a couch companion. Topper would prefer to live as an only dog. He often gets overlooked, like most lurchers, but anyone who would be willing to meet him, won’t need long to realise what a special, loyal, sweet dog, this boy is. Unfortunately, not many people give him this chance.
If you would like to meet Topper, contact us or call to the shelter between 2 and 4 pm 7 days a week. We also have many other long term dogs looking for their forever homes so ask about them too.
