2018 at PAWS in review – Written by Gina Hetherington

1st January 2019

With everyone heading back to normality tomorrow and only 358 days to Christmas  I thought I would take the opportunity to “say a few words” .
2018 brought us a lot of challenges. So many sick and injured dogs came our way, but each and every one of them was worth every ounce of energy, money, love, blood, sweat and quite a few tears that it took to get them back on their feet again and safely placed in loving homes.

383 souls have passed through our doors in 2018, 108 of whom are still here.

While there are so many individual people to thank, I will try to keep it as short as possible.

Firstly, I would like to thank the amazing team that work here. They turn up, rain, hail or shine. Weekends, Bank Holidays, Christmas and never moan about the pay or condiitions or the compassion fatigue that keeps them awake at night. It is a vocation, not a career. They are an amazing team and don’t get nearly enough recognition for their work.

I would also like to thank the rehoming groups in Italy, Germany, Netherlands, CZECH and The UK for helping us to find loving homes for Irelands unwanted dogs. Without their help we couldn’t cope. Our Vets, who have incredible patience and will grit their teeth when I say “yep, money is coming”

And last but certainly not least, YOU. Our supporters. Your lifesaving donations are crucial. Your ‘Likes’, your ‘shares’, your facebook birthday fundraisers. Your car boot sales, your monthly donations, all mean that while somewhere in Ireland tonight an abandoned, hungry dog may be crying for help. But because of YOU and others like YOU a caring voice can answer their call.

Thank YOU for all that you do to make the world a better place for those who cannot ask for help themselves.

Have a great 2019
