Covid 19 and its effect on PAWS

6th April 2020

As Ireland is nearing towards its third official week of implementing government regulations to slow the spread of the coronavirus through social isolation, staying indoors and the closure of many businesses and sectors alike, we as a nation, are using our best efforts to flatten the curve.  It goes without saying that there is a lot of uncertainty and unease surrounding us at this time, we are all in it together and will get through it together but unfortunately, like a lot of other sectors, it is having a drastic effect on PAWS. We have been closed to the public since the 13th of March which has devastatingly put a halt to any dog adoptions but we have also, sadly, had to temporarily close our charity shop in Clonmel which was one of our sources of funds. We have, unfortunately, also had to postpone any planned fundraisers for the foreseeable future.

Our kennel team are continuing to get up and come to PAWS each day as we are still responsible for the 80 dogs in our care that are relying on them and they are abiding HSE guidelines while working in the shelter to the best of our ability. We are an essential service working and caring for the homeless, abused or abandoned dogs in our care but the lack of our charity shop and fundraiser donations and no adoptions, while still having a daily influx of public contacts needing help, have put a strain on us. The PAWS supporters are some of the best in the world and we know that this is a difficult time for everyone but we need your help in any way that you can. We would like to ask for anyone that can, to think of PAWS as we would be so grateful for any donations possible, maybe you’re saving money on coffee on the morning commute and are able to sign up as a weekly or monthly subscriber or maybe you have saved money from a cancelled event and would like to make a once off donation? Perhaps you have a Birthday coming up and would like to choose PAWS Animal Rescue Ireland for a Facebook charity fundraiser so people could donate in your name or maybe you would like to do an online fundraiser on social media like a family quiz or a Facetime activity night where friends and family can join in for a donation to go towards PAWS? If you can help in any way you can, please contact us on info@paws.ie or donate directly at paws.ie/donate. As always we really appreciate your support and we are so grateful to everyone who helps us continue our work in caring for the PAWS dogs.
