Success Stories – Bru finds his forever home

3rd January 2020

When a gorgeous, bright, happy, young staffie cross boy came to PAWS almost three years ago, we had no idea he would be with us for so long. Bull breeds and their crosses always struggle to find a home and they are often what make up most of our long term shelter dogs but Bru was the exception given his youth and devilishly handsome good look. He was a stunner! He was also full of fun, gave the biggest, sloppiest kisses and had the waggiest of tails for everyone he met at PAWS. Despite this, his time at PAWS just grew longer and he grew bigger and unfortunately, continued to be ignored as people passed by his kennel. It was heartbreaking to say the least as we all knew what a fantastic dog he would make for someone if he was just given the chance. We also knew the older he got the more he was missing out on all his vital puppy socialisation early stages and training.

In his second year, a special appeal was launched to try find him a forever home and it worked! Bru was adopted and we couldn’t have been happier or more relieved for him but, unfortunately, due to no fault of his own, he was returned less than 2 weeks later. Sadly, he was back in his old kennel, seeking a forever home. It broke our hearts as we could see poor Bru was feeling so down to be back in rescue. He was frustrated and started developing bad habits. The PAWS staff were trying to help by giving him more one on one time and extra walks but it was evident Bru just needed a home of his own.

Towards the end of 2019, in December, Santa PAWS must have been listening to ours and Bru’s wishes, because something amazing happened when someone arrived to PAWS asking about none other than our dashing Bru. It happened! By Christmas 2019, after three years in PAWS, Bru was spending Christmas curled up in front of the fireplace with his new, forever family. We wish him and his family all the best and we can rest easy at night knowing he has finally found his happy, perfect home. If you are interested in offering a forever home to any of our other long term dogs in PAWS care, please, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!
