success stories – Topper found his forever home

9th February 2019

If you’re new to the PAWS kennel diaries, welcome! If you’re an old friend of PAWS and frequent supporter, you would have heard the name of our sweet Topper before. One of our longest residents at the shelter of almost 4 years, Topper was one of most frequently over looked lurchers. In all his years at PAWS, he sadly hardly ever had any interest from anyone. Of course, we couldn’t figure out why not. What more could you want in a dog? Topper is smart, playful, enjoys his cuddles, devilishly handsome. We couldn’t figure out why nobody else could see this. Unfortunately, it’s the story of so many lurchers and other sighthound breeds in shelters all over Ireland. Now, it all makes sense. Topper was waiting out for the most perfect home to come forward and in January of this year, that very home came forward.

A very lovely couple in Holland, got in contact with us to ask about the lovely Topper. After some conversation about the kind of home Topper needed, he was booked for his forever home! We were all so happy for him, even Topper seemed to know something special was in store for him. Earlier this year, Topper made the journey home to Holland where his lovely new owners were waiting to greet him. They had been prepping for his arrival for weeks and for the first time in his life, Topper had a forever home and a bed, lead and collar, toys, a food and water dish all of his very own. Topper has since started his new life and his new owner has been keeping us updated on how lovely he has been settling in. We couldn’t think of a more fantastic and loving home for the gorgeous Topper. We hope all our shelter dogs find future homes just like it. If you are interested in adopting one of our long termers like Topper, please get in touch with us, we are open at the shelter 2pm to 4pm every day.
