A tribute to Dante 💙 (formerly Spike)

28th January 2022

Many, many dogs pass through the gates of PAWS Animal Rescue. Each one has their own story and unique personality. They also all have one thing in common they’re looking for their second chance and a forever home to call their own. Some of them are so unique, their story, and more importantly, their happy ending will stick with you forever. For many of us here at PAWS, it was Dante’s! Formerly Spike when he was at PAWS.

Dante arrived in PAWS after being passed from pillar to post being rehomed time after time by different people through no fault of his own his whole life. Sadly, the stress of all the uprooting had taken its toll on the poor labrador. He had taken to chewing and biting his tail until it was raw. This can be a common anxiety behavior that dogs can form out of stress or frustration. Despite this, Dante was his happiest when chasing a tennis ball or being out in the pens where he could soak up all the attention from passersby in the yard. He was a typical yellow lab, just wanting to be around people all the time. It was so upsetting watching him get overlooked for almost a year and a half before anyone showed interest in him.

There were tears of joy in the shelter yard, the day Dante was adopted and headed off home. Just look at his face! You could tell he knew he’d done it, he’d finally found his forever home and his happy ending. And he was right too. Dante spent almost 8 years happily living his best life with his parents, Veronica and Liam.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to these wonderful people for giving a wonderful dog a home and continuing on his memory by leaving a generous donation as a tribute to Dante. Our hearts break for you at this time. Rest in peace, boy.
